Yesterday, we hopped on the MegaBus to head in to London. We decided to add a night there last minute before heading to Germany. We are very glad we decided to do this, we love big cities!
Public transportation has their own wifi, thank goodness.
Naturally, we were extremely hungry upon our arrival in London. All this walking we've been doing has us hungry all the time.
To our luck, Sainabury's is everywhere.
We picked up some chicken curry from the hot display. 3£ and pretty delicious. Did its job (for a couple of hours).
Walking through the Victoria Station we came to the realization that they charge to use the restrooms here. Um, what?! Hope you don't have to pee!
Figuring out the rail (tube/underground) system took a few minutes, it actually ended up being very easy. We got day rail passes so worse comes to worse we can just keep switching trains without a worry.
Our hostel was adorable. Definitely a worlds difference than our last hostel in Dublin. It was in a more residential part of town. The building was an old mansion owned by the Palmer family, converted into a childrens hospital, and later a hostel.
We went the more ecconomical route since this booking was last minute, so we chose a 21-bed mixed (male/female) dorm.
The room had a great set up, two floors, drawers which you could secure with your padlock, and each bunk had curtains so we still got some privacy.
This trip makes up for all the sleep-away camps we didn't go to. Top bunks rule.
After getting settled in and getting ourselves a picture map, we headed out to explore the city.
This picture map was not as helpful as the one we had in Dublin. Getting around London was a bit more confusing.
Couldn't leave London without having fish and chips! Apparently this is only a touristy thing to do. The guy who worked at the hostel told us that he's had fish and chips maybe twice in his life and it was because of an emergency. We didn't care, it was delicious.
We spent our evening just walking around the city. We feel like we get more out of our self-guided tours than the paid ones. We decided to explore our first day in a city then go to the places that interest us the most on the following days.
Of course we were bound to eventualy get lost. Not just once. We did end up lost again and in a dark deserted part of town...oops. Thankfully we found our way back to civilization without encountering any creeps and without being "taken". We seem to slowly but surely be getting the hang of this map/public transport thing.
Cheers!

Beautiful pictures. Be careful girls. <3
